Wordless Wednesday (11-16-2011)

People say a picture is worth a thousand words so I have decided to do a day in the life of series through pictures, no captions no explanations. Here is the first installment.

Review: Maybelline Eyestodio Color Explosion Luminizing Eyeshadow (10 Amethyst Ablaze)

• Sophisticated color, ignited by an exclusive luminizer, reveals amazing color highlights.
• Explosive pigments sweep on for the truest color payoff. Exclusive luminizer unleashes a surge of color.
• Ophthalmologist-tested. Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers

Let me start by saying I’m a sucker for purple eyeshadow, and these did not disappoint. The shadows were nicely pigmented. They have a soft and smooth texture and blended well. All of the shadows have a shimmer to them, the lightest shade on the bottom is more of a frost. I found the glitter shade interesting; it has silver and rainbow holographic glitter which looks a little drastic in the pallet but when blended out is a really pretty glitter. I like how the shadows can go from a day to night look just by adding the glitter on top of the look. I enjoy the mix of purples with a grape shade and a plum/ wine shade and the lighter shades on more of the pink side.

Quick Tip: How To Hide Roots Between Colorings

With coloring your hair inevitably it grows out and your left with roots. Weather your a brunet gone blond, a blond gone red, or trying to cover grey, there comes a point when your roots start to show and it's too soon to color or just don't have time to get to the salon. So I have an easy tip to camouflage roots so they are not so noticeable.

All you need is a comb with a tapered point on the end.
  1. comb hair staight back along the part.
  2. Take the pointed end of the comb and with a little pressure draw in a z zig zag motion along the part line towards the back of the head.
  3. separate the hair, and your left with a zig zag part
  4. then with your fingers fluff hair near the roots buy pushing in towards the part

Your left with the roots in your part being less noticeable.  This works best for hair with roots that are less than an inch.

Review, Precision Foam Color from John Frieda. (I'm a Red Head)

I like to shake things up every now and then so I decided to go red. Even though I have done it before and the upkeep for red hair is notoriously a pain. There is just something about being a red head that makes me feel saucy. They say blonds have more fun but I’m convinced it’s red heads. You defiantly get noticed more as a red head. It's funny friends and even my mother said that I should of
been born a red head.

Precision Foam Colour is the first ever premium permanent home hair colour that uses foam technology to deliver salon-quality results at home. With 20 flattering shades to choose from, achieving flawless, natural-looking results at home has never been quicker or easier.
Simply massage the foam into your hair to achieve flawless coverage you thought you could only get at a salon. No drips, no stains – just gorgeous-looking hair from every angle.
                                                    (Description from John Frieda.com
The color I went with was the 6R light red brown.

After, application two. The color looked much better and richer after the 2nd round.

This hair color was really easy to use. All you needed to do was squeeze the foam into your hand and apply to the hair, there was no fiddling with special applicators. The foam formula does a great job at saturating all the hair unlike cream formulas that don’t soak through to all the hair leaving splotches. I loved the provided gloves, which were black latex or vinyl gloves that fit well and were sturdy. Sometimes I find that with hair the provided gloves feel like plastic sandwich bags and are always way to big.
The only problem that occurred was that I started off with bleached blond hair which did not absorb the color well and let my hair with a pink tint. I ended up applying another bottle, and with the second bottle my hair finally absorbed the color.  So note if you’re starting as a light blond going for the 6R light red brown you may need to do it twice. Blonds, especially bleached blonds have very little pigment in the hair for the color to grab onto.
I would also do this in a well ventilated place the color has a lot of fumes to it and can be pretty strong.

Ancient Egyptian Art Inspired Tutorial

Recently I was playing around with my makeup and tried the color combination of torques blue and gold shimmer on my eyes and it reminded me of the death mask of King Tutankhamen.  I decided to make a look inspired by Ancient Egyptian art. I incorporated some aspect from the bust of Nefertiti like the berry colored lips and awesome sun kissed cheekbones. Of course I couldn’t forget the famous lined eyes but with a twist.

This look could be worn for a night out or if your daring like me as a day look. I would also be great for Halloween if you’re going as Cleopatra.
